The washing of aggregates, quarry waste, sand, etc results, by its very nature, in the production of a silt/clay-laden slurry.  Before this water can be discharged to the outside environment or reused in the washing process it must be cleaned, i.e. the silt/clay removed.  The standard practice for this in the past has been to allow this silt/clay to gravitate out over a period of days in large settling ponds.  After a period of months the silt/clay is removed by draglines or long reach excavators.  The sludge further dewaters over a period of weeks before disposal.

The advent of the Finlay Siltmaster system provides for a much more compact and manageable system.  The Finlay Siltmaster has been designed, using the latest advancements in flocculent technology to clean the silt/clay from the washing plant wastewater.  The dirty water from the washing plant is typically gravity fed from the washing plant to the Siltmaster.  Here flocculent is added.  The silt/clay conglomerates and is collected and discharged to seepage bays.  The silt/clay further dewaters here over a few hours prior to disposal.  The clean water passes to the rear of the Siltmaster where it typically flows to a holding tank prior to reuse.

With no settling pond area required it has now possible to install compact washing plants on quarry floors, inner cities, quaysides, etc.  There are advantages to traditional existing sand and gravel installations in that downtime due to settling pond maintenance can now be a thing of the past.

The Finlay Siltmaster system can be used anywhere where effluents require to be cleaned, e.g. tunneling projects.

In limestone applications the silt product can be processed using an ALLU Processing Bucket as a marketable ag-lime product.
